Fans have been patiently waiting for the coming of The Winds of Winter. George RR Martin is, reportedly, hard at work to finish the much-awaited novel, and he may change how the story goes and end after the Game of Thrones' ending backlash.

Martin earlier said The Winds of Winter would be out in July 2020. However, the year is about to come to an end, and the sixth book is yet to hit the bookshelves.

According to BlockToro, the famed author is now focusing on working on the novel, thanks to the COVID-19 lockdown. It gives the 72-year-old more time to focus on continuing writing the fan-favorite characters' stories.

Amid the TV series fiasco, Martin aims to change the book's storyline to give everyone a proper ending. When Game of Thrones Season 8 concluded, there were a lot of fans who complain about the climax.

It looks like it didn't sit so well. Jon Snow (Kit Harington) ended up in the Wall after he killed Daenerys. Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) was crowned the King of Westeros, while Sansa (Sophie Turner) became the Queen of Winterfell. Arya (Maisie Williams) went on a journey alone and fans seemed to expect something else.

With the new path Martin promised to take, it just hypes The Winds of Winter, making fans eager to get their hands on it. They all want to see how the novelist will give justice to the characters' storyline, opposite to what the showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss did with Game of Thrones.

Screenrant noted Daenery's future in the books might have a different plot. In the novel, she is "softer, wiser," and has a different situation in Meereen.

So, Martin may continue to feature her story on a different path. Here, she may use Drogon to take command of the Dothraki.

Also, knowing Euron takes hold of a Valyrian Horn, which can control dragons, he may have used it to steal Rheagal instead of killing it. If this happens, Euron may use Rheagal against Daenerys, who may wield Drogon that may result in an epic sky battle.

It is also possible that Dorne will declare war against Daenerys. Lastly, if she will indeed die in The Winds of Winter, her spirit may live on in Drogon, making her literally the last dragon.

Anyhow, it still remains to be a big mystery as to when the sixth book will come out, but Martin is hopeful that he will finally complete it next year, per Inverse. Fans may finally get a grasp of The Winds of Winter in December 2021, although that date seems to be dreamy.
