The popular online multiplayer social deduction game developed by Innersloth has Impostors and Crewmates. At some point, players encounter the term third Impostor, giving others the perception that it literally means one more Impostor in the game. Interestingly, unknown to some, the term has more to it than just another player bent to kill all crewmates.

What Does The Term Third Impostor in "Among Us" Mean

In "Among Us," it is not common to hear players or see someone accuse another player of being a third impostor. Some who have heard the term for the first time might assume that the person throwing the accusation is probably suggesting that there are three impostors in the popular social deduction game. However, this is not the case.

The term third impostor is more of a "dig" or a sarcastic remark. Usually, "Among Us" players use this to refer to other players who are acting suspicious but are not obviously the real impostor. Others call someone in the game the third impostor if they are failing to complete their tasks, not voting along with the majority, or accusing the wrong player.

While these players are not necessarily killing anyone or trying to lose, their chaotic style of playing the social deduction game makes them appear like a mini-impostor or, well, a third impostor. Other players use the term third impostor to their crewmates, who are not performing their duties as a crewmate to a degree that they look like another impostor in the game.

Other "Among Us" Details

Meanwhile, the Innersloth developed social deduction game is one of the most downloaded titles in the industry. In its latest digital report, research firm Nielsen confirmed that the game has roughly half a billion active users in Nov.2020. Sensor Tower reported that the mobile version of "Among Us" was downloaded 42 million times between Aug. 1 and Sept. 14 of this year.

It accounts for approximately 70% of the game's lifetime downloads. However, according to SuperData, while the game is among the most downloaded and played title, it has modest earnings since it is not a heavily monetized game.

"Among Us" is currently playable on PC, iOS and Android devices. The game was recently launched on Nintendo Switch. Microsoft already confirmed that it would be released in its gaming consoles; namely Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The game will also be available in Xbox Game Pass for console next year.
