Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, posted some good cheer and a never-before-seen photo for Christmas Day for the British public, but instead of a positive outcome, the royal couple was apparently forced to remove the comments section to prevent another attack on their social media accounts.

Clarence House on Twitter and Instagram shared the royal pair's Christmas Day photo, where they're dressed in casual clothes and carrying walking sticks. According to People, the actual snap was taken by a staff in Birkhall, Scotland, where Prince Charles and Camilla isolated early this year. They were preparing to go for their afternoon walk before this photo was taken.

Despite the cheerful post, netizens started to comment with criticisms against the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, prompting Clarence House to shift the settings of their social media profiles, per Daily Express. This was not the first time Prince Charles' social media team had to turn off the comments since they've been receiving attacks from royal fans shortly after the release of The Crown season 4 on Netflix.

The latest episodes of the royal drama center on the early years of Prince Charles' marriage to Princess Diana and his affair with Camilla. The show drew many criticisms for the unfair depiction of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, but some viewers also turned to the royal pair's social media to lash out at the couple.

The Queen's former press secretary Dickie Arbiter said that the royal family is used to being portrayed on TV or movie for the purpose of entertainment. However, he also believes that The Crown season 4 was not an accurate depiction of Prince Charles, given some of the fan reactions.

A follower on Twitter reshared the Christmas Day photo and said that the replies have been disabled. The fan also said that they knew royal fans would flood their posts with comments about Princess Diana, so they had to turn the commenting feature off.

However, there have also been posts showing support for the future King of the United Kingdom and his consort. Royal journalist Rebecca English reshared the photo and said that she likes the message and the festive image from the royal pair because it seemed to say they're sticking it up to 2020.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Camilla spent Christmas Day at their home in Highgrove in Gloucestershire due to the Tier 4 restrictions set in the United Kingdom. Like many families across the globe, Prince Charles and Camilla didn't have a traditional gathering with the rest of the royals for the holidays. However, it is understood that Prince Charles might have a socially-distanced visit to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip at Windsor Castle sometime in the next few weeks.
