Belkin is recalling its Portable Wireless Charger due to fire and shock safety concerns.

If you own a Belkin Portable Wireless Charger, it might be wise for you to unplug it now. The company announced today that it is voluntarily recalling the product due to fire and shock safety concerns. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says that the voluntary recall affects Belkin's Portable Wireless Charger + Stand Special Edition sold in Apple retail stores, as well as Apple and Belkin's online shops, between July 2020 and October 2020. Although there have been no reports of any incident or injury brought about by the hazard, the company thought it best to recall the product after discovering a flaw that could lead to unwarranted situations.

With a 10,000mAh power capacity and capability to charge supported phones at 10W speed, Belkin's Portable Wireless Charger + Stand Special Edition was an instant success upon its introduction to the market. According to information on Belkin's site, the innovative charger supports iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone SE (2nd Gen), and other Qi-enabled devices. In a statement regarding the voluntary recall, Belkin said it discovered an issue with the product's "power supply unit," which could cause it to overheat. When this happens, the charging device may catch fire or give users an electric shock.

Belkin is advising users who bought its Portable Wireless Charger + Stand Special Edition between July 2020 and October 2020 to immediately stop using the device and unplug it from a power source. The company also announced it is issuing refunds to owners of the Belkin wireless chargers covered by the recall. If you happen to own one, you just need to fill out and submit a form requesting a refund on the support page on Belkin's website.

The Belkin Portable Wireless Charger + Stand Special Edition is popular with many users because of the convenience it offers. Users love the ability of the device to provide your iPhone or other Qi-enabled devices with fast wireless charging by simply putting it against the surface of the charger. According to Belkin, its wireless charger provides up to 25% faster charging speed compared to similar products in the market. Best of all, you need not remove your iPhone from its case as the product's charging pad can charge through even thick cases. Belkin did not say whether it plans to reissue the recalled product soon. Aside from mentioning that there is an issue with its power supply unit, the company did not explain in detail what causes the device to become a fire and shock hazard.
