A recently-approved patent that Apple filed several months back shows the company is researching the possibility of a wireless charging ecosystem for its iPad, iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch.

Apple is exploring the idea of developing a wireless charging ecosystem for multiple devices. Recently, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office approved the patent application of the Cupertino tech giant for "Inductive charging between electronic devices." What Apple has in mind is a wireless charging ecosystem for Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch, which means that one device charging another using a device-to-device inducting charging technology.

The patent, entitled "Inductive charging between electronic devices" and seen by Patently Apple, does not necessarily guarantee that Apple will integrate the technology soon in any of its products. However, it does mean that the Cupertino tech giant is researching the idea and may start working on it anytime. If Apple finds the idea doable and stands a chance, then people might soon see a wireless charging ecosystem technology integrated into various devices like the Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch.

The patent explained in detail about the research of Apple on the so-called wireless charging ecosystem technology, which the company might implement in the iPad, iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch. Based on the imagery contained within the patent application entitled "Inductive charging between electronic devices," Apple proposes a type of wireless charging ecosystem involving the MacBook Pro, iPad, the iPhone, and Apple Watch.

The recently approved patent revealed that Apple considered the integration of wireless charging coils in various sections, like the palm rest, trackpad, and the top case, of the future MacBook Pro. These coil placements would allow users to charge their iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch, on the MacBook Pro with wireless charging ecosystem technology. For instance, you could set your Apple Watch down on the machine's palm rest to charge the smartwatch while you continue working on your MacBook. The inductive coils described in the patent entitled "Inductive charging between electronic devices" also allows for a two-way charging, which means both devices receive and distribute power.

With this type of two-way wireless charging ecosystem technology, users can choose which device receives charging power. The document also revealed that Apple is looking into the possibility of putting the wireless charging coils on the front, as well as on the back of devices like the iPad. According to the recently approved patent entitled "Inductive charging between electronic devices," this would allow you to put your iPhone on top of your iPad's display to charge the smartphone wirelessly. You can also put your Apple Watch on the iPhone to charge the smartwatch too. When this happens, then Apple's wireless charging ecosystem for Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch, will become the next big thing.
