Despite her dramatic effort to stay on Miss Trot 2, musical actress Kim Sa Eun lost by a landslide during a recent sudden deathmatch. The shocking appearance of her husband, Super Junior's Sungmin was cited by fans as the reason.
According to a report by Koreaboo, Kim Sa Eun performed a rendition of the song "I Really Really Like You" for the match. While there was no problem with her singing, she caught viewers and judges by surprise when her husband made a grand entrance nearing the end of the performance.
At first, the surprise was well received by fans but some believe that the couple took it too far when they ended the performance with a full-on kiss. While there was nothing wrong with the move since the couple was married, some of the viewers believed that it was inappropriate for the performance that was based on singing skills.
It can be recalled that the relationship between Sungmin and Kim Sa Eun was met with controversy in 2014 when the couple decided to get married. Many members of Super Junior's ELF fandom criticized Sungmin and accused him of betraying their trust with his sudden decision. They claimed that he mishandled the situation and continued to demand his ouster from Super Junior in the years that followed, All Kpop reported.
In 2019, Label SJ announced Super Junior's first full comeback after all the members have completed their military enlistment. However, ELFs remained adamant that they will boycott any Super Junior activity that included Sungmin and Kangin, Koreaboo reported.
As a result, only nine members are currently promoting under Super Junior. This includes Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Siwon, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun.
After Kim Sa Eun's performance, netizens expressed their disbelief on social media. Some criticized the actress and singer for resorting to a kiss gimmick to generate attention. What's more shocking was the results of the voting.
All of the judges for Kim Sa Eun's opponent and she received zero support from the judges. Some fans of the show said that the same gimmick might have worked with another contestant but it just happened that there were still those who viewed their relationship negatively even after six years.
Some felt sorry for Kim Sa Eun but said that kissing her husband on stage was not the right way to win over the audience. While Sungmin is no longer promoting with other Super Junior members, he continues to be managed by the same label.
