Prince William reportedly did not want the public attention as the heir to the throne, and it disappointed him to learn of his status because he wanted to live a private life.

Royal author Angela Levin revealed what William's brother, Prince Harry, told her while working on the book Prince Harry: Conversations with the Prince. Apparently, William and Harry had the same goals of making a difference in the world but they both craved for privacy as well.

Levin learned that William loved the kind of privacy and freedom he received while was studying at St. Andrew's University for college. During those years, the press was still careful to report about William since he was still a university student.

Insiders also told The Scotsman that William was planning to move to the United States at 21 years old and live a low-key existence. The Duke of Cambridge apparently had small dreams than being the King, as he wanted to do postgraduate studies while working at a gallery.

However, after leaving university, William abandoned plans to live in the U.S. and joined the military academy to chart a career with the Royal Air Force. By 2014, the Duke of Cambridge became a full-time pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. He was also a newly-married man with a baby to boot. That baby was Prince George, the third in line to the British throne.

By 2017, the Duke of Cambridge finally decided that he will become a working royal as his grandfather, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was ready to retire. Since assuming more roles for the Crown, William proved to be an invaluable member of The Firm despite his reluctance to be groomed as the King only a few years back. He has also been taking points and receiving guidance from Prince Charles and the Queen as he prepares for his future responsibilities.

According to royal experts Ann Gripper and Russell Myers, William has been stepping up on his work as a significant member of the royal family, especially during this pandemic. He was instrumental in convincing the Queen, Prince Charles, and the rest of the working royals to use video platforms to replace in-person engagements.

William had the help of his social media time to set up their system online and got his father on board as well. In a way, Gripper and Myers said that the Duke of Cambridge transformed how the royals worked in this changing and challenging period.
