George R.R. Martin is yet to release, let alone finish, the much-awaited The Winds of Winter. The sixth book to the A Song of Ice and Fire series has been in the making for almost a decade, so what makes the 72-year-old too long to write?

According to BlockToro, Martin is also working on several other projects more aside from The Winds of Winter. As some of these side jobs are already completed, done, and delivered, fans are not happy to know that those come first before the novel.

The series' followers feel like the novelist has time to do other things but not the book. Things even get worse when the author himself said he couldn't work "under so much pressure"—add to that the people who have kept asking on the novel's release.

Hence, with his workload stress, fans may not get their hands on the novel this year for the nth time.

Sure, Martin has been keeping fans updated about his life and book progress on social media. He previously claimed the quarantine helped him to write The Winds of Winter, but it seemed like it was about to change.

In a post, per Express, he shared a photo of a typewriter and captioned it with "there is nothing to writing." He added all he did is sit all day and bleed. It was also accompanied by a quote from Ernest Hemingway and a stressed emoji, showing his mood.

It looks like the book series' success takes its toll on Martin's workload. Aside from the novel itself, he is working on several things.

Epic Stream noted he is also involved in the new Game of Thrones prequel on HBO, other book projects, and several more stories about Westeros. Of course, Martin has his own life to tend to.

One way or another, Martin has proven that he is trying his best to finish The Winds of Winter. He has dropped several supposed release dates of the book, although none of those see the light of the day.

He has also released a number of chapters, giving a glimpse of what fans will see. So far, Martin has delivered five books from A Song of Ice and Fire, the last being A Dance with Dragons in 2011.

There are still two books—The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring—needed to complete the series, and it remains to be seen when Martin can finally finish it.
