Four new cases in Australia's New South Wales state were detected Monday bringing the infections in the latest cluster to 11. The state is on high alert as a result of Sydney's increasing outbreak of the infectious Delta variant of Covid-19.

Contact tracing is underway to find how a member of an international flight crew contracted the disease after completing 14 days of compulsory hotel quarantine, ABC News said.

The Philippines signed its largest supply deal for vaccines this year, acquiring 40 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, task force member Carlito Galvez Jr said Sunday.

"The massive procurement positions the Philippines closer to reaching widespread immunity. The government targets achieving herd immunity, or vaccinating 70 million Filipinos by the end of the year," Galvez said, according to Rappler News.

Top health officials in Singapore are skeptical about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines produced by China's Sinovac, even as the city-state began administering the vaccines last week, The New York Times reported.

India reported 58,419 new cases over the past 24 hours Sunday - the lowest daily figure in almost three months, health authorities said.

The number of cases in the country has risen to almost 30 million with 386,713 deaths, Reuters reported.

Worldwide, 178 million cases have been reported with 3.86 million deaths.
