Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have signed in some media ventures since they officially stepped down as senior royals. Part of their deals is a massive contract with Netflix, reportedly worth more than $100 million, but a royal expert said it would not be an easy task.
Prince Harry and Meghan will be working on docu-series, feature films, scripted programs, and children's shows on Netflix. Now, journalist and royal commentator Emily Andrews sees the royal couple's move as conflicting.
According to Express, Andrews said in the 2021 documentary, "Secrets of the Royal - The Markles vs. The Monarchy," the Sussexes' "parallel goals are conflicting." As the pair is under the spotlight, they have made a way to secure their media work.
However, for Andrews, their platform as royalties and part of the Royal Family are the reasons why they are being paid.
"That's quite tricky, people always want the most compulsive viewing," she said. "The things that are going to command the most column inches and effectively that then translate into dollars."
It may have something to do with their "personal and intimate revelations" that will be a "tricky tightrope" for Prince Harry and Meghan to walk. Although the two only reveal little details about the Netflix deal, a few things are already known.
Bustle noted that two shows are now in the works, "Heart of Invictus" and "Pearl." The first one is a docu-series that will show how the athletes prepare behind the scenes for the Invictus Games: The Hague 2020.
This event will happen in 2022 after being rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prince Harry will executive produce this show, while he will also be featured in the production.
The second one is "Pearl," an animated series about a 12-year-old girl who gets inspiration from several influential women in history. Meghan will executive produce this project, along with the filmmaker David Furnish, Sir Elton John's husband.
In a statement, via Sky News, the Duchess of Sussex revealed the story would feature the journey of the young heroine named Pearl. Just like other girls her age, she is on her way to self-discovery and trying her best to overcome life's challenges every day.
Though the two shows' release dates are yet to be revealed, Us Weekly reported one of the projects is already on the way. A source also told the publication that a possible collaboration between Meghan and Kate Middleton might happen.
Despite the rumors between the two, they are said to be on good terms. The insider revealed they are getting along really well and in touch more often.
