Famed Marvel film director Taika Waititi drew in a lot of attention after talking about the hit Netflix series "Squid Game" on social media. The show now takes the world by storm, but director Hwang Dong-hyuk has been through a lot before that happens.

Waititi showed his support to "Squid Game" after he tweeted that viewers did not have to watch the show in English dub. Despite the simplicity of his message, fans commend him for it, per AllKpop.

The tweet in question now has more than 6,000 retweets and over 76,000 likes. South Korean fans themselves noticed the award-winning filmmaker's tweet and agreed with what he said.

Some said the show would not be the same when people watched it dubbed. Another chimed in and saw how the "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Thor: Live and Thunder" director knew his stuff.

Another asked how the certain Korean languages could be translated into dubbings. So, for a better viewing experience, many suggested watching any local shows or movies in their respective languages.

It could not be denied that "Squid Game" has been gaining incredible popularity since it hit Netflix on Sept. 17. It is now ranked as No. 1 in 83 countries worldwide.

But before it became a big hit, Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed it took him more than ten years before he managed to bring its dystopian story to life. In an interview, the screenwriter said he had already finished the series' script in 2009, but investors and actors often rejected it.

Many found it "weird" and he had experienced the same rejections for ten years. No studio was interested in taking the project as many said it was too "unrealistic." Anyhow, the 55-year-old filmmaker did not give up.

He admitted its content was too unfamiliar to society and culture at the time. So, it made him feel that his script was still too "premature" to be seen by the world.

However, ten years after, the OTT platform emerged and a large gap between the rich and the poor became worse. The idea to get rich quickly became a thing and with the current world condition, he believed it was the best time for this project to materialize.

Now, "Squid Game" is continuously dominating the Netflix ranks. There are even rumors that it has the chance to become the most-watched TV series on the said platform. With that said, everyone is now looking forward to seeing "Squid Game 2."
