In March, additional direct payments, including stimulus checks, will be sent across the country.

While a fourth federal stimulus check appears doubtful, states and cities are establishing or expanding their own cash aid programs.

Some of them are in the form of stimulus checks, while others are in the form of universal basic income, the latter of which is recurring rather than one-time payments.

Here are the cities and states that will be receiving funds this month.

$4,000 in New Jersey

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has set aside $40 million in federal funds to assist families that did not qualify for the federal government's economic stimulus checks last year. This group will include undocumented immigrants in particular.

The state is no longer accepting applications, as the deadline has passed. Those who are approved, on the other hand, will receive a special message with a unique login and password, which will be used to access an attached link that will take you to the payment method: check or direct deposit.

After your application is granted, you will receive the one-time reward in two to three weeks. A direct cash incentive of $2,000 is available to eligible persons. A family can receive up to $4,000 in aid.

$1,200 in California

California implemented two state stimulus programs in 2021: Golden State Stimulus I and Golden State Stimulus II, which provide up to $1,200 and $1,100 in stimulus checks, respectively.

The state recently distributed approximately 139,000 stimulus checks. Furthermore, California intends to distribute up to 70,000 stimulus cheques beginning in mid-March.

Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed a large $286 billion budget proposal for the budget year 2022 in January.

While the governor's proposed budget does not include another round of Golden State Stimulus checks, he has left the door open to more tax rebates this year as the state figures out what to do with its large budget surplus, which may exceed California's constitutional limit.

To be eligible for either check, California residents must earn less than $75,000 per year and have paid their 2020 taxes by Oct. 15, 2021

$660 in Shreveport, Louisiana

Currently, a number of cities and states have begun their own UBI systems, with qualified residents receiving monthly payments.

One of them is Shreveport, Louisiana, which will provide $660 monthly payments to 110 people for a year.

To qualify for the payments, a municipal resident must be a single parent with an income of 120% of the federal poverty level. A single parent is defined as a mother, father, stepparent, grandparent, caretaker, or legal guardian of a school-aged child, according to the city.

Payments were supposed to go out earlier this week, but a delay has pushed the deadline back to Tuesday, Mar. 8, according to the city's pilot program manager.
