For many users, one of the more controversial decisions was Apple's refusal to include a charger and headphones with the new iPhone devices. All of this can be explained by the fact that the company is concerned about the environment and strives to lessen the damaging strain on the environment while also reducing the burden on cargo aircraft.

Apple's goal is to cut annual carbon emissions by 2 million tons, or the equivalent of taking 500,000 automobiles off the road, by using smaller iPhone boxes.

However, not everyone believed in the Cupertino company's good intentions. Although many believe that this is a "green" effort, it is motivated by the company's greed rather than care for the environment. And it was able to make a lot of money off of it.

According to the Daily Mail, Apple saved at least $6.5 billion by removing the headphones and charger from the iPhone packaging. However, when Apple removed the accessories from the iPhone box, it did not lower the price of its handsets.

At the same time, many iPhone owners who wanted to rapidly charge their phones only possessed the 5W adapters that came with older models, forcing them to spend $19 on a 20W charger and another $19 on new EarPods.

Of course, we may be shorting Apple here. After all, some iPhone owners may have chosen to replace the complimentary EarPods that came with the device until Apple replaced them with a set of AirPods, which are currently available for $129 and higher.

If a customer only wanted to replace the EarPods, he or she could do so for an additional $19. Even if an Apple customer only wanted to add a charging brick and wired EarPods to his new iPhone, he'd have to pay an extra $38. When you consider how many iPhones Apple sells each year, this equates to a lot of money flowing into Apple's coffers.

Apple expects to save 40% on shipping expenses by reducing the size of the package and enabling 70% more smartphones on each pallet, which will allow the corporation to lower the price of the phone to consumers. According to some estimates, Apple saves the equivalent of $35 on each iPhone it sells. Despite this, the company has not reduced its costs.

It's no surprise that other tech companies are following Apple's lead and removing chargers from the packaging.
