If federal stimulus payments are missing, hundreds of workers in one place might get $700 stimulus checks.

This is happening in West Liberty, Iowa, where city council members agreed on June 8, 2022, to distribute payments to 200 citizens. The proposal is still in the works, so even though it is progressing, it must still be approved.

Who Are Eligible for $700 Stimulus Check?

These payments are for workers who were not eligible for the federal government's stimulus payments. If the idea succeeds, immigrants can also claim the money. The initiative will be funded with $147,000 from the American Rescue Plan.

While the majority of council members support the $700 per stimulus check arrangement, some want the stimulus checks to be worth $1,400 apiece. On June 21, 2022, an official decision will be made. Local governments are doing everything they can to assist suffering citizens as inflation reaches fresh highs of 8.6% in May. Gas prices have now risen to an average of $5 per gallon throughout the country, Fingerlakes1 reported

Workers who were not eligible for the federal stimulus check program will get the suggested payments. According to the Quad-City Times, if the bill passes, immigrants will be entitled to collect the payout.

"Even if we don't have much to contribute, it will still have a great impression for those families who didn't get anything," Dana Dominguez, chair of the financial committee, told the QC Times.

When To Receive New Stimulus Payment Worth $700?

However, council members Jose Zacarias and Omar Martinez want excluded West Liberty workers to get $1,400 payments. They said they would keep lobbying for higher payouts until a formal agreement is reached on June 21. The stimulus check suggestion comes as inflation continues to wreak havoc on low-income Americans. According to the US Department of Labor, the inflation rate hit 8.6 percent in May, the highest level since December 1981.

As per the American Automobile Association, the average cost of a gallon of gas has risen to $5. Indiana's governor has suggested distributing $225 payouts to taxpayers from the state's budget surplus.

"Hoosiers have genuine needs right now at this era of rising inflation, from the gas pump to buying groceries," said Governor Eric Holcomb, "and everyone should benefit from the state's accomplishments."

Holcomb's plan would make payments in accordance with Indiana's automatic taxpayer refund statute (ATR). Under the same statute, around 4.3 million of the state's taxpayers began receiving $125 payouts last month. Thousands of Maine citizens are expected to get their $850 payment by the end of July. The cash is available to around 858,000 persons in the state. According to the Bangor Daily News, state authorities want to issue around 200,000 payouts every week.

Those who qualify must have filed an individual tax return as a full-time resident in 2021 and must not have been listed as a dependent. Single taxpayers must earn less than $100,000 in adjusted gross income.

An AGI of less than $150,000 is the threshold for Americans filing as head of household. Married couples filing joint returns must earn less than $200,000, according to The Sun.
