A royal expert claims Prince William and Kate Middleton may move to Windsor Castle someday as their new home of Adelaide Cottage is "only a lease." Despite the backlash, the Cambridges are about to make their move next month, leaving Kensington Palace in London behind.

Adelaide Cottage is a four-bedroom house near Windsor Castle. So, can Prince William and Kate Middleton move to Windsor Castle one day?

Robert Fiorito and Rachie Bowie talked about the future king and queen's move and the possibility that they could move to Windsor Castle via Express.

Fiorito said that though it's sad that Queen Elizabeth II would not always be there, the family of five could eventually move to Windsor Castle, especially since they're only doing a lease on Adelaide Cottage. So, it just means that their stay there may not be long-term.

Bowie seconded Fiorito's assumption, adding that the royal couple is only renting the place. Fiorito further explained that the lease may indicate that the family would not always be in Adelaide.

Adelaide is located about 25 miles from London, where Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, live. With their upcoming move, they will be near Queen Elizabeth II, who's now residing full-time at Windsor Castle. They will also be closer to the Middleton family.

Meanwhile, this move is met with criticisms, with some saying it's "disgusting," especially it's happening at the time that many find themselves in the middle of the worsening cost of living crisis, per Cosmopolitan.

Republic chief executive Graham Smith said their move comes as ordinary households find it hard to pay their energy bills and face inflation. He questioned the need to give Prince William and Kate Middleton another home and called it "disgraceful."

He added that these palatial homes need 24-7 protection, heating, and staffing, describing it as a state-owned property empire that's supposed to make money for the treasury. However, it was said that the royals' use of the property was a gift from Queen Elizabeth, giving them permission to lease it from the Crown Estate using their private funds.

Queen Elizabeth doesn't manage the Crown Estate, though its income has something to do with the amount of money she receives each year.

Elsewhere, royal correspondent Richard Palmer noted the move is because of Prince William and Kate Middeton's eagerness to give their kids as normal lives as possible.

Adelaide College is foreseen to have a "sense of normality" that Kensington Palace doesn't have. The Cambridge kids will also be attending Lambrook School, which is near their new home.
