Ben Affleck finally addressed his "miserable appearance" at the 2023 Grammys while sitting alongside his wife, Jennifer Lopez. Amid the many theories guessing the reason behind his so-called unenthusiastic look, the actor shut down the negative claims and said he was only "caught off guard."

Many thought Affleck was having a bad time during the award's night, with some saying he looked bored and not pleased with his attendance. But the truth is, he was having fun being with Lopez.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the 50-year-old detailed that he was surprised by the event host Trevor Noah's skit, approaching him and J.Lo. He knew they were included in the shot, but he had no idea that the camera was already rolling.

Before the act began, the couple was caught having a conversation. The actor revealed he was telling a joke to the "Shotgun Wedding" star. He planned to move away and leave her sitting alone next to Trevor as soon as the filming began.

Affleck added that Lopez warned him not to leave, calling it a "husband-and-wife thing." "I mean, some of it is, I'm like, 'All right, who is this act?'" he said.

But what happened was they were both caught off guard, not knowing they were part of the frame and being filmed.

In the skit, Trevor pretended to talk to his mom on the phone about Sam Smith's controversial Grammy performance of "Unholy" with Kim Petras. He joked that it "wasn't the actual devil" and they were just dressed as devils.

He was sitting next to Lopez at the time, and the latter could be seen tapping Affleck's chest after what looked like a casual talk. That scene instantly went viral, and a lot of assumptions were made about the exchange.

One source told Entertainment Tonight the "Gone Girl" star appeared less enthusiastic that night because he was tired. The pair had a fun date that night, but they were busy working on different projects.

But despite allegedly not feeling "his usual self," Affleck still wanted to go and support Lopez. And though it seemed to have caused a little tension between the two, the 53-year-old performer understood her filmmaker husband.

The insider added that Lopez knows Affleck is a great husband, so they still have a good night together. She also sees how supportive he is toward her and her work, though she can't deny that he's more of a homebody, and it's not his thing to attend public events like the Grammys.
