In a rare, candid interview before King Charles' coronation on Saturday, May 6, Princess Anne expressed her disagreement with the idea of slimming down the monarchy, a plan reportedly favored by her brother. The Princess Royal's comments, made during the Monday, May 1, episode of CBS: The National, seemed to take a swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

"It doesn't sound like a good idea from where I'm standing," Princess Anne admitted regarding her sibling's plan. "I'd say I'm not sure quite what else we can do." The mother-of-two further explained, "I think the slimmed-down was said in a day when there were a few more people around," making a comment that could be seen as a subtle criticism of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Princess Anne also reflected on Queen Elizabeth II's reign, noting that her mother "didn't change very much" while on the throne. She acknowledged that "things like that will change" if Charles implements his ideas, and the monarchy's support system might undergo modifications.

When the interviewer raised the idea that some people believe monarchies should be abolished entirely, Princess Anne dismissed the negativity. "I think it's perfectly true that it is a moment when you need to have that discussion," she responded, emphasizing the monarchy's role in providing long-term stability within the constitution, which is "quite hard to come by any other way."

As the country prepares for the historic coronation, during which Queen Consort Camilla will also be crowned, reports suggest that Charles is anxious about the event. A royal source claimed that while his loved ones are concerned "he'll have a meltdown and won't even be able to attend," Camilla has "ordered Charles to man up for the sake of the nation - and their marriage."

"Only Camilla can save the day," the source told Radar. "Against all odds, Camilla got Charles to the altar. You can bet she'll get him to his coronation."
