Kyoungyoon of boy group DKZ, who had halted activities due to a controversy related to being a member of the Christian Gospel Mission (JMS), has announced his departure from the team and revealed plans for military enlistment within the year.
On August 7, the official fan community of Dongyo Entertainment posted a notice titled 'Current Status and Future Plans of Kyoungyoon'.
The agency stated, "Since April, Kyoungyoon had paused his activities due to health reasons and has been focusing on intensive treatment. After a significant recovery, deep discussions were held regarding the future direction of his activities." The decision for Kyoungyoon to leave the group was taken after mutual consultations.
The statement continued, "After wrapping up his activities with DKZ, Kyoungyoon plans to enlist in the military to fulfill his national defense duties by the end of the year. Regardless of the reason, Kyoungyoon deeply feels the responsibility for causing concerns to both the members and the fans. We will fully support Kyoungyoon so he can return in good health to his fans."
Through a handwritten letter, Kyoungyoon expressed, "Over the past five months, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on what's best for the people I care about. In the end, I decided that I should let go of my role as DKZ's Kyoungyoon. I hope you understand my decision."
Additionally, Kyoungyoon wrote, "Thinking of the remaining members, I don't want to regret my choice. I'm still rooting for them and haven't forgotten the gratitude I feel towards our fans. I will cherish these feelings in my heart."
Previously, a Netflix documentary titled 'I am God' released in March brought to light that Kyoungyoon's parents were members of the controversial JMS group. At that time, Kyoungyoon expressed deep regret, saying, "I reflect and blame myself to the point of wishing I could turn back time."
He subsequently declared his departure from JMS. After the incident, Kyoungyoon reported suffering from anxiety disorders and social phobias, leading him to suspend his activities.
