"(Renewing the contract with BTS) in itself is a joy, as it acknowledges HYBE as a management company. It's a happy occasion as their manager."
On October 12 (local time), Chairman Bang Si-Hyuk of HYBE took part in 'Bloomberg Screentime' held in Hollywood, USA. When asked about the significance of the second contract renewal with BTS, he stated, "It's evident that BTS is essential for the growth of (HYBE as a) company."
HYBE had announced the news of the second contract renewal with BTS on the 20th of the previous month. Chairman Bang mentioned, "Our relationship with BTS is good, but naturally, there were pains during the contract negotiation process. Overcoming those made us closer." He added, "In a life lived as a manager, there's a lot of pain, but this was the greatest joy."
Chairman Bang also revealed a project commemorating the 10th anniversary of BTS's 'HYYH (The Most Beautiful Moment in Life)' album release. He surprised everyone by saying, "We had discussed creating a commemorative album when the 'HYYH' album, released in 2015, reaches its 10th anniversary, and now we'll be able to do it together." 'HYYH' is an album that resonated globally, reflecting BTS' growth as artists and their life experiences.
Regarding the ongoing global girl group project, Dream Academy, Chairman Bang explained, "To expand K-pop's influence in the global music market and secure many global fans, both external and intrinsic expansion was necessary." He continued, "It will contribute to the expansion and longevity of K-pop. Regardless of success or failure, we will continue experimental attempts like Dream Academy for the next few years, seeking sustainable growth avenues for K-pop."
Chairman Bang added, "Personally, I'd like to live a retired life 10 years from now." He hoped people wouldn't misunderstand this as a retirement announcement, saying, "Even if I'm not the key person in 10 years, if the company can run without me, perhaps I can step back for the next generation."
