G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji-yong, 35), a member of the group BIGBANG, has been charged without detention for violating drug management laws.
On the 25th, G-Dragon's former agency, YG Entertainment (hereafter referred to as YG), stated to News1 regarding G-Dragon's non-detention charge, "As he is currently not an artist under our agency, an official response is difficult." G-Dragon had previously been with YG for a long time, but their exclusive contract has already ended. Last June, a representative from YG told News1, "Our exclusive contract with G-Dragon has expired."
The Incheon Police Department charged G-Dragon without detention on this day for violating drug management laws. The police had previously conducted a mandatory investigation after charging actor Lee Sun-kyun with drug allegations and are continuing their investigation after identifying and charging G-Dragon.
Regarding matters related to G-Dragon, the police said, "It's an ongoing investigation, so we cannot disclose specific details."
G-Dragon had faced accusations of smoking marijuana in Japan in May 2011. Although a hair follicle test conducted by the prosecution showed a positive result, G-Dragon stated during the prosecution's investigation, "I once smoked a cigarette given to me by a stranger in a club in Japan. It smelled different from regular cigarettes, so I suspected it might be marijuana, but it's true that I only smoked a bit." Considering that G-Dragon was a first-time offender and the amount detected was minimal, the prosecution gave him a probationary disposition.
Meanwhile, the police have also charged Lee Sun-kyun without detention for violating laws related to marijuana and hallucinogens.
In September, the police initiated an investigation into Ms. A (29, female), the manager of an entertainment business, based on intelligence received. It was then confirmed that Ms. A had administered Philopon, leading to her arrest on the 21st. Through Ms. A, the police became aware of Lee Sun-kyun's marijuana allegations and charged him and other entertainment business workers without detention. Amid all this, Lee Sun-kyun claims that he was blackmailed by Ms. A in relation to drugs and was extorted for approximately 350 million won, and he has filed a lawsuit for blackmail.
