BLACKPINK's Lisa's Weibo account in China has been abruptly shut down.
According to recent reports by Chinese media and multiple international news outlets, including CNN, Lisa's Weibo account was suspended on the 1st.
Currently, when trying to access Lisa's Weibo account, a notice appears stating, "This account has received reports of violating laws, regulations, and Weibo's community management rules, and it is currently not viewable."
However, the official BLACKPINK account and the accounts of Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé are operating normally.
News outlets, including CNN, speculate that the abrupt closure of Lisa's Weibo account may be due to her recent performance at the Crazy Horse, one of the three major cabarets in Paris. CNN said the specific complaint received is unclear. Chinese internet companies regularly suspend or delete accounts for violating numerous censorship regulations or simply causing too much controversy."
It is believed that Lisa's account, which showcased a provocative performance, was suspended in accordance with Weibo's censorship rules.
In connection to this, Chinese netizens are also having heated discussions online. Some netizens argue that it is "an excessive measure" to delete an account just because a non-Chinese person like Lisa appeared on the show.
In September, Lisa performed in the 'Crazy Horse' show in Paris. Although this show is categorized alongside Moulin Rouge and Lido as one of Paris's top three shows, it has also been wrapped up in controversies of sexual objectification due to its use of lights and projections on the female form.
While some BLACKPINK fans expressed negative opinions about Lisa's participation in this show, Lisa herself shared her joy about the performance on her social media. Other BLACKPINK members, Rosé, Jisoo, and Jennie, also showed their support by attending the show.
Yet, the aftermath seems ongoing.
CNN pointed out that Lisa's SNS shutdown occurred in a strictly controlled Chinese online environment that sparked massive controversy. They directly linked Lisa's performance to the shutdown. CNN added that Lisa's show sparked debate in some conservative parts of Asia, particularly emphasizing the fierce pro-and-con debate on Weibo about Lisa's show appearance. The fact that the Weibo accounts of other BLACKPINK members, Jisoo, Jennie, and Rosé, remain untouched supports this speculation.
