Group NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) will perform at the 'Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs)', becoming the first K-pop girl group to do so. The BBMAs announced on the 8th (local time) through their official social media that NewJeans has been selected as a performer for the '2023 BBMAs'. NewJeans, performing for the first time at the 'BBMAs' since their debut, is expected to showcase performances of 'Super Shy' and 'OMG', which entered this year's Billboard main singles chart 'Hot 100'.

The 'BBMAs', along with the 'Grammy Awards' and 'American Music Awards', are one of the three major American music award ceremonies. BTS is the only K-pop group that has performed at the 'BBMAs'. NewJeans, as the first K-pop girl group and within the shortest period since debut (1 year and 3 months) for any K-pop group, has been selected as a 'BBMAs' performer, solidifying their status as a 'global trend' artist.

NewJeans has been very active on the Billboard charts this year. In July, their second mini-album 'Get Up' set a new record for the shortest time for a K-pop group's debut album to reach number 1 on the main album chart 'Billboard 200', and they entered the 'Hot 100' with five songs ('OMG', 'Ditto', 'Super Shy', 'ETA', 'Cool With You'). On the 'Global 200' chart, which targets over 200 countries/regions worldwide, three songs ('OMG', 'Ditto', 'Super Shy'), and on the 'Global (excluding the U.S.)' chart, four songs ('OMG', 'Ditto', 'Super Shy', 'ETA') made it into the 'Top 10'.

Based on these achievements, NewJeans has been nominated in a total of four categories (including multiple nominations for 'Top Global K-pop Song', totaling five) at the '2023 BBMAs', becoming the K-pop artist with the most nominations. Notably, in the 'Top Billboard Global (Excl. U.S.) Artist' category, they are the only K-pop group nominee, standing shoulder to shoulder with prominent artists such as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, and Bad Bunny.

The performances and award announcements for the '2023 BBMAs' can be checked on the 19th through the official Billboard social media channels and BBMAs.watch.
