BTS member Jungkook has clinched a trophy at the '2023 Billboard Music Awards' (BBMAs), marking a new era in global pop stardom. Already a 12-time BBMAs winner with BTS, Jungkook made history this year by being named a winner as a solo artist for the first time.
At the '2023 Billboard Music Awards', held on November 20 (Korean time), Jungkook won the 'Top Global K-Pop Song' category with his solo single 'Seven (feat. Latto)'.
The BBMAs base their nominations on achievements over the past 12 months, including album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring, and social engagement. Released last July, 'Seven' quickly garnered explosive popularity and secured the 'Top Global K-Pop Song' trophy.
Jungkook's win marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first Korean solo artist to receive a BBMA since Psy's 'Top Streaming Song Video' award in 2013, achieving this distinction after a decade.
Expressing his gratitude in a video, Jungkook said, "It's hard to express how thankful I am. I am grateful to everyone, including ARMY, who loved this song. Without you all, this incredible award would not have been possible. Working on 'Seven', I hoped many would enjoy this track, so winning this award holds great meaning. I am thankful to be able to share great music with everyone."
Jungkook, as part of BTS, has set historic records at the BBMAs. BTS began their streak in 2017, winning the 'Top Social Artist' award and continuing to do so for six consecutive years until last year. With a total of 12 trophies, including 'Top Social Artist' (2017-2021), 'Top Duo/Group' (2019, 2021-2022), 'Top Song Sales Artist' (2021-2022), and 'Top Selling Song' (2021-2022), BTS holds the record for the most BBMAs trophies won by a global group.
In related news, Jungkook is set to host the fan showcase 'Jung Kook 'GOLDEN' Live On Stage' at the Jangchung Gymnasium in Jung-gu, Seoul, at 8 PM on the 20th.
