Jimin from BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) has achieved a monumental global success as a solo artist in 2023. His track 'Like Crazy' has been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the shortest time for a Korean soloist's song, reaching this milestone in just 251 days.
Co-composer BLVSH celebrated this achievement on Instagram, stating, "The song 'Like Crazy,' which hit a million units in August, has finally received Platinum certification." The news quickly became a worldwide trend on 'X' (formerly Twitter), under 'LIKE CRAZY RIAA CERTIFICATION', drawing a wave of congratulations from fans globally.
'Like Crazy' had already surpassed one million units in the US by August 26, making it the first 2023 release by a Korean solo artist to qualify for Platinum status. However, the final certification was only achieved on November 30, three months later, due to requirements set by the record label for submission to the RIAA.
Previously, 'Like Crazy' earned the 'Gold Single' certification from Music Canada, marking the first Korean solo song in the past decade to achieve this. Jimin's album 'FACE' also received the 'Million Certification' from the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) on Circle Chart, with its 'Weverse Version' earning 'Platinum Album' certification for selling over 250,000 copies. In Japan, 'FACE' achieved a historic first and sole 'Golden Disc Platinum' certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for Western albums, with sales exceeding 250,000.
With these achievements, Jimin set a unique record of being the only K-pop solo artist to have a Billboard 'Hot 100' No. 1 hit and receive Platinum certifications in both the US and Japan, as well as Gold in Canada.
Jimin, who first topped the Billboard 'Hot 100' as a Korean solo artist, also became the first and only solo artist from Korea to top the Billboard 'Artist 100'. He appeared in a record 13 categories in the Billboard Year-End Chart, the most entries in a single year in the chart's history for a Korean soloist.
Moreover, Jimin's 'FACE' was hailed as the best-selling Korean solo album of 2023 on the United World Chart. His track 'Like Crazy' also achieved No. 1 in iTunes 'Top Song Charts' in 119 countries, setting numerous records. Jimin, receiving widespread global love, was honored as the Best Male Artist at the 2023 MAMA Awards.
Continuing his impressive run throughout the year, Jimin swept global music charts with his Korean album, completed with his solo tracks without collaborations, solidifying his position as a leading solo artist representing K-pop.
