A royal author has compared Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's "steely determination" to make money to American socialite Wallis Simpson and her husband, King Edward.

Speaking with GB News, Alexander Larman compared the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, claiming they are a "modern-day version" of the divisive royal couple.

The royal couple sparked controversy in 1936 when Edward VIII abdicated the throne to his brother George to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson.

According to Larman, Prince Harry has the same "haplessness" as the Duke of Windsor, while Meghan has the same "steely determination" as the Duchess.

"I think they are very, very lucky to find each other because they've made two people miserable rather than four. Much of the same thing can be said about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor," the author stated of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Camilla Tominey emphasized the biggest "bombshell" for Prince Harry and Meghan: their decision to step down as senior royals to pursue a more "private" life in America. Camilla pressed Larman on how "damaging" he thought their exit had been for the Royal Family, but he claimed it had "not been damaging" for the couple.

"Ever since Harry published his memoir, Spare, which was a ridiculous book, there's no sense whatsoever that they are a serious couple. I was looking at the American Riviera Orchard revelation the other day and I thought Wallis Simpson, who was obviously Meghan's spiritual forebear, would have done her own lifestyle brand - but with quite so crass a title? I don't think so," Larman told GB News.

When Camilla asked Camilla if he thought Harry and Meghan were "latter-day Edward and Wallis," Larman responded, "I think they definitely are." Larman also addressed the latest Royal Family crisis, as King Charles and Princess Kate continue their cancer treatments.

According to Larman, the fact that two senior royals are facing significant health concerns is "absolutely unprecedented" and "certainly not seen in history." "You can look what happened with Kate where the whole truth wasn't being revealed, and the speculation got so wild," he stated.

"People were coming forward with the most outrageous ideas, and they were being taken seriously in mainstream circles. We are obsessed by the health of the Royal Family, because they are the first family in this country, and we look to them to set an example," the author went on.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry has expressed his desire to be actively involved in royal engagements in the UK, particularly the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which is significantly important to him. The Duke of Sussex is scheduled to deliver a speech at the commemorative event on May 8 at St. Paul's Cathedral, highlighting his continued commitment to the cause.

In an opinion piece for Express UK, royal commentator Nathan Kay highlighted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's efforts to maintain their presence in Britain despite previous criticisms of the Royal Family and the media attention surrounding them.

Kay pointed out the controversies stemming from their public statements and the release of "Endgame" by author Omid Scobie, raising questions about the couple's trustworthiness within the royal context.

Speculation about Meghan Markle accompanying Prince Harry during his next visit to the UK has been fueled by comments from Scobie, suggesting Markle's discomfort during her time in Britain.

However, Tom Quinn, another royal writer, suggested to The Mirror that Prince Harry's participation in the Invictus Games would likely necessitate his return to the UK, underscoring the event's importance to him. Quinn also noted that any absence might be interpreted as a desire to avoid potential tension with his brother, Prince William.

In an interview with "Good Morning America," held during a preparatory event for the Invictus Games in Whistler, Prince Harry shared plans for future visits to the UK, including seeing his family. While he did not comment on his father, King Charles's recent cancer diagnosis, he mentioned, "I've got other trips planned that will take me through the UK, or back to the UK, and so I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can."

Since relocating to the United States, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made few returns to the UK, marking a significant estrangement from the Royal Family. They reside in Montecito, California, with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Prince Harry's most recent visit to the UK was notably brief, lasting less than 25 hours, during which he met with his father following the announcement of the King's cancer diagnosis. This short visit underscored the ongoing complexities within the royal family dynamics as Harry quickly returned to California following a private conversation at Clarence House.
