Nick Cannon has admitted that he divorced the diva songbird Mariah Carey because he thought she was the "man" in their marriage, a new report claimed. This follows that he fathered ten more children with five other women after having twins with Mariah Carey, his wife at the time.
In retrospect, the 44-year-old actor and host of “Masked Singer” reveals that his anxieties caused him to believe that the 55-year-old “Touch My Body” songbird was the "alpha" in their relationship and that he was only "Mariah's man."
"I got married in my 20s to the biggest star in the world," he recalled. "I would lay up at night thinking, like, 'Is this who I am? Am I Mariah's man? Is that what my life is supposed to be?'"
During the eight years that Cannon and Mariah were married, which ended in 2016, they became parents to twins Moroccan and Monroe, who are now thirteen, as per PEOPLE Magazine. However, Cannon felt more like their mother than their father.
"I'm carrying a purse, the diaper bag and, you know, I'm standing on the corner like, 'Wait,'" he said.
Looking back, Cannon believes Mariah "deserves" to be the head honcho in her relationships. "She's rocking being the alpha. I believe she needs a dude like that. I'm just not that dude," he stated.
The pair ultimately decided to part ways because they could not deal with their non-traditional roles, with Mariah as the boss.
Through his relationships with his girlfriends Brittany Bell, Alyssa Scott, Abby De La Rosa, Bre Tiesi, and Lanisha Cole, Cannon has been a father to 10 children: Golden, seven years old; Powerful, three years old; twins Zion and Zillion, three years old; Legendary, two years old; Onyx, two years old; Rise, two years old; Beautiful, one year old; Halo, one-year-old, and Zen, who passed away in December 2021 before reaching the age of five months.
Although Hollywood has been wonderful to him, Cannon does not want his children to follow in his footsteps in the entertainment industry, as per TODAY.com. He was not opposed to the idea of his twin daughters, whom he shares with Mariah, pursuing careers in the entertainment industry in 2014. However, he hoped they would cultivate passions, leading them down a different route.
”I don’t want my kids to be on TV, that’s the only thing [I don’t want them to do],” Cannon once said, according to Contact Music.
