Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has delayed the premiere of her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, in response to the devastating wildfires ravaging Southern California. Originally scheduled for release on January 15, the series will now debut on March 4, as Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, concentrate on aiding those impacted by the disaster.
"I'm thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California," Markle said in a statement on Sunday. The series, filmed in Montecito, California, is described by Netflix as an "inspiring blend of lifestyle programming, practical tips, and candid conversations" that celebrates Markle's connection to her home state.
The wildfires, particularly the Palisades Fire, have claimed at least 16 lives, destroyed thousands of structures, and forced more than 105,000 residents to evacuate, according to LA County Sheriff Robert G. Luna. Cal Fire reported Sunday that the Palisades Fire has burned over 23,000 acres and is only 11% contained, while the Eaton Fire has scorched 14,000 acres with 27% containment. Dangerous Santa Ana winds are expected to exacerbate the situation in the coming days.
In the midst of the crisis, Meghan and Harry have been actively involved in relief efforts. On January 10, the couple visited the World Central Kitchen (WCK) in Pasadena, where they distributed food and essential supplies to families displaced by the Eaton Fire. They also met with WCK founder José Andrés, commending his team's efforts to support the affected communities. During their visit, they worked alongside Jennifer Siebel Newsom, California's First Partner, and Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, expressing gratitude to first responders and connecting with victims.
"In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more," the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement on their official website, Sussex.com. "Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children's toys, and other essentials."
Through their Archewell Foundation, the couple has made financial contributions to relief efforts and opened their Montecito home to friends and loved ones forced to evacuate. The foundation is also working to identify the most impactful ways to support recovery and is exploring opportunities to assist with long-term mental health needs in the affected communities.
With Love, Meghan promises a heartfelt glimpse into Markle's life in California, featuring scenes of her cooking, gardening, and hosting friends, including Prince Harry. In a promotional clip, Markle shares her love for elevating simple moments into meaningful gestures, saying, "I've always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it. Surprising people with moments that let them know I was really thinking of them."
