Prince Harry and Prince William's fractured relationship is again under scrutiny following new reports claiming the Duke of Sussex has grown increasingly resentful of his brother's rising royal profile. The renewed speculation emerged alongside Prince William's recent Earthshot Prize engagements and coincided with Prince Harry's appearance in Canada for Remembrance events, prompting accusations the trip was intended to draw attention away from the future king.
According to reporting by RadarOnline, individuals described as royal insiders claim Prince Harry has become "unrecognisable" to those who knew him before stepping back from royal duties. One source alleged the change followed his marriage to Meghan Markle, stating, "This is all a new person we've seen since he married Meghan." The source characterized the Duke as "very jealous" of Prince William's continued official success.
The timing of the Canada trip was interpreted by these insiders as strategic, occurring while Prince William traveled to Brazil for the Earthshot Prize awards. The event, which highlights global environmental innovation, has become one of the central pillars of William's public work since founding the prize in 2020.
A separate source quoted in the RadarOnline reporting offered a pointed assessment of the Duke of Sussex, stating, "He was never this petulant or spoiled before marrying Meghan. He was not bitter. He understood what ground rules were." The source added that "Harry is now unrecognisable" to his relatives.
Representatives for Prince Harry dismissed the suggestion that the trip was planned to overshadow his brother. His team stated the Remembrance events had been "planned nearly a year ago" and emphasized that the timing of announcements can differ due to security protocols, given that he is "not afforded the same level of security and protection as other working members of the Royal Family."
The strained relationship between the brothers has remained a focal point of public attention since Prince Harry and Meghan's 2020 departure to California, where they now run the Archewell Foundation and produce media and philanthropic projects. Meanwhile, Prince William's responsibilities have expanded since King Charles III's accession in 2022.
These latest claims continue a history of commentary regarding rivalry between the brothers. In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry wrote that there had "always been this competition between us." Public discussions of the relationship have also referenced earlier periods in which William was reported to be "a bit envious of [Harry's] freedoms," according to LiveMint coverage.
One insider quoted in RadarOnline alleged efforts by Harry to draw attention away from Prince William's Earthshot events were intentional, saying, "Harry is a spoiled brat and wants attention. He is very jealous of William. ... He's not getting good guidance, and he looks miserable all the time."
The rift has led some commentators to speculate about long-term ceremonial consequences. Biographer Andrew Lownie claimed that "Both Andrew and Harry will be banned [from the events]," referring to future major royal occasions. Lownie added, "The relationship between William and Harry is over."
Kensington Palace and representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not issued responses to the latest claims, continuing the royal household's longstanding policy of declining comment on personal disputes.
