Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is once again under public scrutiny as new accounts from insiders describe a lavish daily routine that appears largely unchanged despite the loss of his royal titles and his departure from the Royal Lodge. According to multiple sources cited by OK! Magazine, his lifestyle continues to mirror that of a senior royal, with expansive meals, costly wines for guests, personalised service and weekly dinner events that staff describe as "no-expense-spared." The renewed criticism comes as the royal household faces ongoing pressure to demonstrate fiscal restraint amid tighter public spending.
Sources quoted in the reporting say Andrew maintains expectations of royal-level attention, even though his formal status has diminished. One source told OK! Magazine, "He still lives like a duke, even without the formal title." The same insider added, "He's surrounded by luxury, whether anyone likes it or not," noting that daily routines and service standards have not shifted since he was stripped of duties.
Those expectations, insiders say, continue to place financial strain on King Charles' household. One insider stated, "Everything has to be perfect, staff are expected to cater to his every whim." The source also warned that the approach carries ongoing costs: "The cost of keeping him happy is enormous."
The spending reportedly extends to frequent private gatherings that include Sarah Ferguson. These dinners, according to a source, are designed to impress: "No expense is spared when he entertains; he likes to impress." Another insider told OK! that Andrew positions these events as a continuation of his status, saying, "It's a show of wealth and status, and he makes sure everyone notices."
Although Andrew does not drink, several insiders claim he supplies guests with high-priced wines and champagne. One insider told the outlet, "He doesn't drink himself, but he'll make sure everyone else has the best," adding that "Even without touching a drop, the drinks alone cost a fortune."
Food expenses appear to be equally significant. Sources describe full cooked breakfasts and lunches featuring venison, pheasant and prime rib. One insider stated, "He refuses to compromise on quality; every meal is top tier," and continued, "The food bills alone are staggering."
Staff members also raised concerns about waste, which some described as excessive and demoralising. A palace insider told OK! Magazine, "He orders enough to feed a small army, and much of it is thrown away-it's sickening." Another source added that "Waste seems built into the system, he doesn't hold back," suggesting the volume of unused food is part of a long-standing pattern.
Even Andrew's move out of the Royal Lodge has not altered the dynamic. One insider said, "He may have left the lodge, but he hasn't left luxury behind," and added that staff remain on hand to maintain his preferred standards. "He's still living life on his own terms," the source said.
