A viral social media post claiming that Katy Perry is pregnant with twins with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau amassed more than 6.6 million views this week before being flagged as parody, underscoring how quickly celebrity rumors can eclipse verified information.
The claim originated on X from a parody account, Hoops Crave (@HoopsCave), which posted: "Katy Perry announces she's expecting twins with Justin Trudeau: 'She's eating for 3 now'," alongside a photo of the couple and a sonogram image. The post accumulated over 7,000 likes and 4,200 reposts before a community note clarified that the account is satirical and that the sonogram image dated back to 2014.
Despite the disclaimer, the rumor spread widely, fueled in part by recent public appearances by Perry, 41, and Trudeau, 54. The couple confirmed their relationship publicly last year via Instagram after months of speculation, placing them under sustained media scrutiny.
Recent reports also noted that Trudeau purchased a £2.45 million ($3.1 million) estate in Montreal. Xavier Trudeau, the former prime minister's son, confirmed he had met Perry and described her as "cool," a detail that intensified public fascination with the relationship's trajectory.
Speculation accelerated after Perry and Trudeau were seen together on Feb. 21 at the Coral Casino and Cabana Club in Montecito, California. Perry wore a loose white cover-up with a robe draped across her midsection, a departure from her typically fitted stage and red-carpet wardrobe. Online observers interpreted the outfit as evidence of a concealed pregnancy.
An unnamed source quoted by the Daily Mail rejected the claims. "Justin and Katy's relationship is going great. Nobody actually believed it was ever going to be a thing, and now that it is, everyone wants them to get married and have children," the source said. The same source added: "There have been rumours recently that Katy is pregnant, but she is not. She's not against it, but they are just in a euphoric honeymoon phase and enjoying life together with the children they already have from their previous relationships."
Separate reporting by Geo News suggested the couple had discussed the possibility of expanding their family. An insider told the outlet: "Katy's ready to go all in right now with [Trudeau].
