Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are facing renewed scrutiny over their marriage, with conflicting reports casting their six-year relationship as either strained by family scandal and work pressures or fundamentally intact despite a fresh round of divorce rumors.

The speculation has intensified as attention around Beatrice's family has risen again, particularly after the investigation involving her father, former Prince Andrew. In that atmosphere, reports about distance in the marriage have gained traction, even as other accounts have pushed back and described any suggestion of an imminent split as overstated.

Several reports have portrayed Mapelli Mozzi, 42, as increasingly absent at a moment when Beatrice, 37, is under pressure. One source claimed, "Things haven't been great for a while between them, but Beatrice has been determined to soldier on and forge a path through. Beatrice is quite different from her sister."

The same source added, "She really wants to almost naively see the good in people and will turn a blind eye to uncomfortable truths - that is why she was blind to her father's behaviour." Another reported concern centered less on open conflict than on emotional and practical distance, with the source saying, "Beatrice wants to stay together, but he seems more and more distracted by work and travel. Just when she needs him most, he's been pulling away."

Much of that narrative has been tied to Mapelli Mozzi's expanding business commitments. He runs the property and design firm Banda, and reports have said his overseas schedule has increased markedly this year, including frequent trips to and from the United States.

One source described the shift this way: "There's been distance between them with his much-increased work travel lately, which he has been posting out [on social media] heavily in a way he didn't before." Another source went further, linking those pressures to concerns about reputational fallout from the York family. "He's really worried his in-laws will affect his business. Banda has been taking off lately, and he's found some great investors among the wealthy Cotswolds set, but it's taking up a lot of his time and energy. He's all about himself at the moment. You have to feel for Beatrice."

That account has been echoed by reports that Mapelli Mozzi's family is uneasy about the Yorks' continued association with the Epstein files. Sky News reported that the Mapelli Mozzis were "beside themselves and furious" that their son was "wrapped up in the York wreckage."

Yet the public record described in the same batch of reporting is more complicated than the rumor cycle suggests. PEOPLE quoted a source who dismissed the divorce speculation outright as "complete nonsense," offering a direct rebuttal to claims that the couple's marriage is nearing collapse.

The reporting also points to a recent public appearance that cut against the idea of a relationship in visible distress. According to the Daily Mail, the couple attended a birthday party at Eel Sushi in London's Notting Hill neighborhood on Friday, March 20, where they were seen smiling and appearing relaxed.

The broader story of the marriage also helps explain why speculation around it draws such attention. Beatrice and Mapelli Mozzi, whose families had long moved in overlapping circles, reconnected in the autumn of 2018 after seeing each other again at Princess Eugenie's wedding that October. Their relationship advanced quickly, from their March 2019 debut at the National Portrait Gallery Gala to a September 2019 engagement in Italy, where Mapelli Mozzi proposed with a ring he co-designed with British jeweler Shaun Leane.

Buckingham Palace later described the engagement as rooted in the couple's "shared love of family and a commitment to their future together." They married in July 2020 in a private pandemic-era ceremony and have since built a blended family. They share two daughters, Sienna, 4, and Athena, 1, while Beatrice is also stepmother to Christopher "Wolfie" Woolf, Mapelli Mozzi's 9-year-old son from his previous relationship with Dara Huang.
