The tech world is already clamoring to see for themselves the latest features found in Apple's new 2018 MacBook Pro laptop, and it might have unintentionally offered a sought-after solution to keyboard problems.
Last week, the Cupertino-based tech giant unveiled the latest iteration of its MacBook Pro series which boasts what is called a third-generation butterfly keyboard. It was announced during the event that the upgraded mechanism will only offer its user a much quieter typing experience.
However, a handful of reports cited iFixit taking apart the MacBook Pro, and it turns out that there's more to what the new device has in store for its users.
The investigation revealed a silicone membrane covering the mechanism under each key. While its apparent purpose is to further muffle the sound of the keys when pressed, the addition of said component is also seen as a way to filter out dust and other small particles, preventing them from disrupting the keyboard mechanism underneath.
While this may be seen as an exciting new development for those who are opting to buy the $2,000 USD-plus computer device, it turns out that not everyone can get them especially if they own the later models of the MacBook Pro (2017 and later).
The iPhone X maker is actually facing a handful of lawsuits for the faulty butterfly keyboards of the MacBook Pro line. To appease the fandom's upheaval, Apple launched what is referred to as a keyboard service program. Users who experience non-responsive keys on their MacBook or MacBook Pro can get free repairs via this program.
However, if you are one of those who expects that your defective MacBook keyboard will be replaced with this latest innovation, then you shouldn't hold your breath.
According to MacRumors, the said third-gen butterfly keyboard is exclusive only to the 2018 MacBook Pro. This means even if the affected device is under the aforementioned program, Apple retail stores and authorized service centers won't be able to use the new keyboards for replacement.
The MacBook Pro is now thought to be the fastest in its line, thanks to its 8th-generation, 6-core Intel processor and up to 4TB of SSD storage.
The 13/15-inch laptop also comes with 32GB of memory plus a True Tone display technology on top of its mainstay Retina display screen.
"The latest generation MacBook Pro is the fastest and most powerful notebook we've ever made," Apple's senior VP for worldwide marketing, Philip Schiller said during the unveiling event.
