Many will be pleased to hear that Athena Grant (Angela Evelyn Bassett) and her team are not planning to stay out of the limelight for long. Thus, here is everything viewers need to know before the season 2 of "9-1-1" hits Fox.

The second season of the hit procedural series "9-1-1" will see Evan "Buck" Buckley (Oliver Stark), Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), Henrietta "Hen" Wilson (Aisha Hinds) and Athena Grant back into action when an 8.2-magnitude earthquake strikes Los Angeles. The group must both spare their lives and the lives of the citizens.

To spice things up a bit, the upcoming second season will also introduce a new bad-ass character, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt). She is the sister of Evan "Buck" Buckley who is starting her life over as a 911 call-center operator.

Aside from the above-mentioned characters, "9-1-1" season 2 will see the return of Kenneth Choi as Howie "Chimney" Han, a firefighter/paramedic; Rockmond Dunbar as Michael Grant, Athena's husband; Ryan Guzman as a new firefighter; Marcanthonnee Reis as Harry Grant; and Corrine Massiah as May Grant.

"9-1-1" was renewed by Fox for a 16-episode second season in mid-January. It comes as no surprise considering that the series has been earning strong reviews and lots of buzz since its season 1 premiere.

"With a bold concept, award-winning stars and a flawless execution, Ryan, Brad, and Tim have done it again," Gary Newman and Dana Walden, chairmen and CEOs of the Fox Television Group said in a statement obtained by Den of Geek. "They have tapped into the cultural zeitgeist and reimagined the procedural as only they could, bringing it to life with a dream team of actors led by Angela, Peter, and Connie. This is storytelling at its best and we're so pleased that it's resonated with our audience," they added.

Due to its tremendous success, one of the series creator Ryan Murphy revealed his grand plans for the future of "9-1-1." In a recent interview (via Indie Wire), Murphy said that the procedural series could have a spin-off set in a different city or could, perhaps, follow Hines or Buckley's respective character.

However, the possibility of a "9-1-1" spin-off totally relies upon how the viewers will perceive the series' upcoming second season which is set to have a back-to-back premiere this Sept. 23 and 24th on Fox network. While waiting, check out the season 2's short preview below:
