Song Joong-Ki is back. The 32-year-old star will be in a new drama, titled "Asadal Chronicles," after his brief hiatus. Song Hye-Kyo's husband will join Jang Dong-Gun and Kim Ji-Won, who is his "Descendants of the Sun" co-star.
Studio Dragon and Blossom Entertainment recently confirmed Song's appearance in "Asadal Chronicles." It is a Korean historical fantasy drama that would be seen on tvN, per The South China Morning Post.
Song Joong-Ki would play the role of Eun-sum, relatively known as a "cursed child." He was born under the ill-omened sign -- the star of disaster. He was often mocked as a child and had a difficult childhood. However, he grew up successful with his mother's love and support.
Eun would not be the only one who was born under the ominous star. Kim Ji-Won would take the role of Tanya, one of Asadal's famous politicians. In spite of her hardships, it would be revealed that it was her destiny to become the city's most important political figure.
Lastly, Jang Dong-Gun would portray Tagon's character. He is known for transforming Asadal to become a city after he won the Great War. He is ambitious and dreaming of becoming the Asadal's first king. Hence, he is ready to take down anyone who will come his way.
"Asadal Chronicles" is set in the fictional world of "As," an ancient city that will later become a city-state. The show will feature the place's struggles as well as its people's hardships throughout its development. A big part of the story will focus on its characters and heroes.
According to HelloKpop, "Asadal Chronicles" would be executive produced by PD Kim Won-Suk, who is behind the hit dramas "Misaeng," Signal," and "My Mister." It would also be written by Park Sang-Yun, who co-wrote "Six Flying Dragons," "Queen Seon Deok," and "Dae Jang Geum."
After Song Joong-ki's appearance was finally confirmed, a local media first reported the rumors that Song Hye-Kyo's husband, Jang Dong-Gun, and Kim Ji-Won would work together for a new tvN drama. They would be reportedly joined by Kim Ok-Bin.
This will be Song Joong-ki's comeback project after his brief hiatus. To recall, the "Running Man" original cast member decided to stay away from the limelight when he got married to Song Hye-Kyo in October 2017.
Blossom Entertainment revealed that "Asadal Chronicles" would be released in the first quarter of 2019 on the tvN network.
