"The 100" viewers were left stunned after they watched the finale of season 5 last Tuesday night. To shed some light on the matter, showrunner Jason Rothenberg openly talked about that shocking finale and what it all means.
In a recent sit-down interview with TV Line, showrunner Jason Rothenberg said that Monty Green (Christopher Larkin) and Harper McIntyre's (Chelsey Reist) shocking death are inevitable and that it was the perfect way to bid goodbye to the characters.
He, then, recalled how he informed Christopher Larkin and Chelsey Reist that their characters are about to be killed off. Though initially upset, the latter accepted her character's fate after showrunner Jason Rothenberg pitched what it was.
In the season 5 finale of "The 100," the survivors stayed in cryogenic sleep for 10 years to give Earth an ample time to recover. However, Monthy Green and Harper McIntyre secretly forgo cryogenic sleep.
The scene, then, shifted to 125 years later where Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor) and Bellamy Blake (Bob Morley) wake up from their cryogenic sleep. They are met by Jordan (Devon Bostick), the son of Harper McIntyre and Monthy Green, who gave them a recorded video about the progress of the Earth.
In the recorded video, it was revealed that the Earth did not recover at all and that Monthy Green found another planet that they can live on. The episode, then, ended with Bellamy Blake and Clarke Griffin gazing outside the ship's window, hoping that things will work out correctly this time --- which seemingly hinted at an entirely new chapter going forward.
"As we move into this new world, I really wanted it to be a new book," showrunner Jason Rothenberg explained. "The first volume is closed, and now we get to tell an entirely new adventure with the people we've come to love. It's going to be crazy and amazing and beautiful and very, very different," he added.
Showrunner Jason Rothenberg also revealed that the new character, Jordan, will play a pivotal role in the television series' 6th season. His uncle, Jonathan Murphy, (Richard Harmon), will attempt to corrupt him. Thankfully, Bellamy Blake and Clarke Griffin will do whatever it takes to keep him away from danger.
No specific release date was announced, but "The 100" season 6 is expected to arrive sometime in Spring 2019 on The CW. While waiting, check out the season 5 finale of "The 100" below:
