Google approached a Bollywood star to promote their Google Pixel 2 smartphone in India. Sadly, the promotional ad the celebrity posted promoted Google's rival instead.
Anushka Sharma, a Bollywood actress, recently posted a tweet showing photos meant to display the capabilities of the Pixel 2's camera, BGR reported. The tweet featured photos of Sharma taken using the Pixel 2 XL's camera, followed by hashtags and other things.
Despite the hashtags and other things written in the tweet, however, a little detail betrayed the post meant to promote the Android-powered device: a note that said the tweet was posted using an iPhone.
Marques Brownlee, a web video producer, was the first to spot that little note. When he did, he couldn't stop but point it out:
Ok I don't even want to know how this keeps happening but it's hilarious pic.twitter.com/sUuHVh4exw — Marques Brownlee (@MKBHD) September 4, 2018
In a tweet, Brownlee, himself a famous YouTube personality, emphasized just how hilarious this mistake is. He also said, albeit sarcastically, that the effort to use an iPhone so as to avoid the Pixel deserves some admiration.
Obviously, BGR notes, this mistake is very humiliating -- particularly for the celebrity and for Google itself.
Promotional Blunders
This is not the first time such a thing happened. Earlier this year, Brownlee also spotted the same error: an Android device promoted through an iPhone, Digit.in reported.
In April, "Wonder Woman" Gal Gadot promoted the Huawei Mate 10 Pro by posting the Huawei ad that featured her using the device. Sadly, the tweet also had the same note, indicating it was posted on the social media platform using an iPhone.
Gal Gadot with the Huawei ad... tweeted from an iPhone. Niceeeee pic.twitter.com/aEKJVwoyBL — Marques Brownlee (@MKBHD) April 24, 2018
Gadot realized the mistake later and deleted the tweet, replacing it with one posted using an Android phone.
Another celebrity, KISS frontman Gene Simmons, made the same mistake earlier than Gadot did.
In 2017, Simmons was promoting the Google Pixel and specially-made KISS Live Cases for the devices, Phone Arena reported. He posted a tweet expressing his appreciation for the sleek device but used an iPhone to do the job.
Celebrities have the power to influence the masses and are normally approached by companies that want to grab a huge share of the market. When celebrities fail this way, however, the results are not very pleasant.
