Could fans be getting a "Twilight" sequel? Nearly a decade after the romantic fantasy film was released in theaters, actor Robert Pattinson said he is open to revisiting his role as a 108-year-old vampire.
Earlier this week, Robert Pattinson attended the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival to promote his upcoming science fiction adventure drama film titled "High Life." There, the actor admitted he is open to the idea of doing another "Twilight" sequel.
"I've literally talked to my agent about it," he said in an interview with Variety when asked about a possible "Twilight" reunion. "The amount of time I spend moisturizing - I am ready to play 17 at a moment's notice. I've got the botox out," he jokingly added.
In the popular "Twilight" franchise, the 32-year-old actor and model played a 108-year-old vampire, Edward Cullen, who still appears to be seventeen. He has the ability to read other people's thoughts along with a mind-boggling superhuman speed. He is the love interest of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), an ordinary woman.
Upon its release in 2008, "Twilight" was well-received by the viewers and has even grossed more than $393 million worldwide. It was, then, followed by a second installment, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which was released in theaters in November 2009.
The third part, " The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," was released in June 2010. The two-part adaptation of the fourth and final installment, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn," was released in November 2011, and November 2012, respectively.
Just like its predecessors, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" were also a box office success, grossing more than $712 million and $830 million worldwide, respectively.
Robert Pattinson, then, admitted he cannot believe it has been nearly a decade since the first installment was released. He said, "It definitely doesn't feel like 10 years ago. I feel like I stopped mentally progressing around the time I started doing those movies. It feels like not a day has passed."
If another "Twilight" sequel turns out to be true, it could explore the plotline of Stephenie Meyer's young adult vampire-romance novel titled "Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined," which was released in October 2015.
In the novel, which is actually a reboot of the first book in the "Twilight" series, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen's genders have been swapped. The latter is also given a chance to decide between a human death and turning into a vampire.
