Facebook has already turned out to be a big influencer to bring more votes in electoral polls. The company is now planning to put the similar effect over the population of the United States during the mid-term elections. But this time it is using its other platform to push all the voters for applying their voting rights. Instagram has started a new ad based campaign to encourage voters to register to vote.
According to The Verge, Facebook-owned Instagram has begun to show ads in users' feeds and Stories with important and relevant information on registering process for voting on the Election Day. The social media site has joined hands with Turbovote to turn this campaign into reality. Turbovote stated that it would offer "up-to-date information on how to register, how to update their registration, how to look up their state's voting rules and more." This whole process will take place on Instagram. The users will get the access to the registration process as soon as they 'swipe up' the ads.
TechCrunch quoted that Facebook had earlier boosted the polls on Election Day back in 2010. Its "Get out the vote" message which appeared on all American Facebook users News Feed interface, had accumulated a huge response for practicing the voting rights during the elections.
According to prior estimations, the company had pushed at least 340,000 people to apply their voting rights back then with their non-partisan campaign approach. A survey report based on 2010's Facebook ad campaign stated: "more of the 0.6% growth in turnout between 2006 and 2010 might have been caused by a single message on Facebook". The survey-based study was held by Nature.
In addition, Instagram will also have an "I voted" story sticker on Election Day for users, according to the latest reports. The users will be able to apply this sticker on their profile picture as soon as they have practiced their voting rights. This will enable the users to let others know over Instagram that they have their done civic duty purposefully.
The ad also links an option dubbed as 'Get to the Polls.' The option allows the users to find their polling location and also let them know how to reach their polling center easily. The mid-term election is about to be held on November 6, this year. Experts have quoted that Instagram is using this ad campaign to encourage more young voters to vote who have just crossed 18 years of age.
