The upcoming tvN's drama series "Asadal," starring Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won, may likely have multiple seasons.

According to the news outlet Sports Donga, "Asadal" is under discussions to become a seasonal drama, after completing the castings. The production plans to consider the series to become a seasonal drama, even from the initial stages of its production. The staff even proceeded with castings with that possibility.

"It's still in its production stage and requires necessary discussions. They may withdraw from making the drama a seasonal one during the production process, but at the moment, it is currently in discussion," a broadcasting industry source said.

Following these reports, an insider from tvN delivered an official statement and said, "The matter of 'Asadal' becoming a seasonal drama has not been confirmed. We are considering the possibility of the seasonal format."

If ever "Asadal" follows through this change in format, it will become another seasonal historical drama following MBC's "Chosun Police," which aired the final season back in 2010, and upcoming Netflix original drama "Kingdom," which will be airing this coming December.

According to Soompi, this will particularly be meaningful for tvN since its plan in making the previous historical series "The Three Musketeers" a seasonal drama fell through. The network has not been able to escape its "historical drama trauma" since then.

But, tvN has gained confidence following the success of "Mr. Sunshine" and for the favorable outcome in the drama series "100 Days My Prince." Now, the network is hoping to score big with "Asadal."

"Asadal" is a fantasy period drama series which focuses on power, love, and growth that takes place in the city of Asadal - which is said to have been the capital city of the Gojoseon era.

The drama was co-written by Kim Young Hyun and Park Sang Yeon of "Tree with Deep Roots" and "Six Flying Dragons." tvN also confirmed the casting of Song Joong-ki, Kim Ji-won and Jang Dong-gun for the drama series.
