"Homeland" Season 8 will be Claire Danes' last stand as Carrie Mathison. The spy thriller television series will come to an end, and Showtime President and CEO David Nevins teased it will have a "proper conclusion."

"[Co-creator and showrunner] Alex Gansa will bring the show to its proper conclusion," Nevins said about "Homeland" Season 8 at the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour, via TV Line. "I cannot say enough about how much 'Homeland' has meant for the acceleration of our brand, not to mention to me personally."

Nevins revealed Gansa and Danes mutually decided that "Homeland" Season 8 would be the show's conclusion. The two had talked about the series' end before the previous season got to a close.

Although Nevins seemed skeptical to end the show in "Homeland" Season 8, it was the right time to do so. Gansa, on the other hand, admitted it felt sad they came to that decision, but it would be the perfect moment to finish Mathison's journey and story.

Gansa also told Entertainment Weekly in April that the previous season "arranged all the pieces of the chessboard" together to create a perfect finale for the story they would tell in "Homeland" Season 8. "We get to play this last season in D.C with the intention of taking us overseas for one last chapter," he said.

He continued to say "Homeland" Season 8 would take place in an unrevealed international country. In the previous season, Gansa said they had a chance to tell a story of a "larger national stakes," so they would like to go back to a "smaller intelligence-based" in the new season.

Gansa added they made a great effort to pull the previous season together so that they would put "emotional heart of things" in "Homeland" Season 8. Additionally, in an interview with Howard Stern, Danes confirmed the show would come to an end when asked if it would be the series' final stand. "Yeah, that's it," she said.

OtakuKart reported "Homeland" Season 8 might have the same cast that included Danes as Mathison, Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson, and F. Murray Abraham as Dar Adal. Also, Elizabeth Marvel as Elizabeth Keane, Maury Sterling as Max Piotrowski, Linus Roache as David Wellington, and Jake Weber as Brett O'Keefe are expected to return.

Showtime has yet to reveal "Homeland" Season 8's official trailer or any promotional releases, but it is expected to be out a month before its release. The new season will take its final stretch in June 2019 with a new set of 12 episodes that might happen in Israel.
