Diageo announced the new White Walker by Johnnie Walker Blended Scotch Whisky and The Game Of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection in partnership with HBO.
Diageo is a multinational beverages company headquartered in London. The company used to be the world's largest distiller until China's Kweichow Moutai surpassed it in 2017.
The White Walker by Johnnie Walker takes after the mysterious terrifying creatures that are also the biggest villain in the "Game of Thrones" series. Whiskey specialist George Harper mixed the spirit using the single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish which are both distilleries located in the most northern region of Scotland. Scottish winters are similar to the freezing climate that is integral to the Game of Thrones storyline.
The liquor's bottle design played with the familiar icy white and blue colors reminiscent of the overall surrounding of the north of the Wall. Johnnie Walker's iconic Striding Man is also presented like he is among the armies of the Night King.
The spirit promises a taste of blended caramelized sugar and vanilla, fresh red berries, and an aftertaste of orchard fruit. True to its inspiration, the blend is best served chilled according to Diageo.
The Game Of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection, on the other hand, features eight different scotches named after the Houses of Westeros and the Night's Watch. Each of the bottles has distinct Scottish malt that is connected to the house they represent.
The House of Tully is paired with the Singleton of Glendullan Select; the House Stark with Dalwhinnie Winter's Frost; House of Targaryen with Cardhu Gold Reserve; the House of Lannister with Lagaluvin 9-year-old; the Night's Watch with Oban Bay reserve; the House of Greyjoy with Talisker Select reserve; the House of Baratheon with Royal Lochnagar 12-Year-Old; and finally the House Tyrell with Clynelish Reserve.
The White Walker-inspired scotch whiskey will be available starting in October while the Game of Thrones' inspired single malt scotch will hit shelves in November. Unfortunately, the products will only be available in the United States. There has been no announcement on whether the limited edition collection will be released internationally.
The launch of the Game Of Thrones-inspired Johnnie Walker collection coincides with a report from the International Wines and Spirits Record citing Diageo's Johnnie Walker as the leading brand among all spirits sold in travel retail industry. The company sold more than 2.5 million nine-liter cases in travel retail in 2017.
Pushing Johnnie Walker's sales are its Black, Red, Double Black and Gold labels.
Johnnie Walker has also posted double-digit growth in its duty-free market in the Gulf as well as key markets in Singapore, Malaysia, the Levant, Africa, and Russia.
