Nicki Minaj opened up about her past in the two teasers for "Queen: The Documentary" she shared on Instagram on Tuesday, October 2. The 35-year-old star talked about how her father hurt her mother, and how she ended up a victim of domestic violence, too.
"I remember when my mother would let my father be violent with her," Minaj said in the first clip while she recalled the horror of her past. On the verge of tears, the famous rapper illustrated how she would stretch her hand and bravely protect her mother from her father's violence.
At the time, Minaj promised herself she would never let it happen to her or allow anyone to do it to her. It might also be the reason why some people saw her as "abrasive or b*****." But unfortunately, she ended up being a victim of domestic violence like her mother.

"I vowed from that age, no man would ever be with me and call me out my name, treat me like that," Minaj said. "And then all of a sudden, that was my life."
In the second clip, Minaj talked about the abusive relationship she had, and how it greatly affected her. She felt so distressed at the time she even questioned herself.
Minaj remembered the time when she let one person brought her down that made her forget who she used to be. That situation caused her intense fear that she was even scared to visit the studio. She also started to doubt herself.
But when she moved to Miami and returned to New York, Minaj broke free from her abusive relationship. She then produced the songs "Good Form" and "Coco Chanel" that were instantly big hits.

In an interview with Minaj in 2010, she told the Rolling Stone, via Hollywood Life, she wanted to be successful to save her mother from domestic violence. She went back to the time when she would go to her room, got down on her knees, and prayed to ask God to make her rich so she could take good care of her mom.
Minaj revealed her father was a "violent drug addict." Things got pretty worst when he tried to burn down their house while her mother was still inside.
The "Barbie Dreams" hitmaker hoped that her revelations about her father would encourage other patriarchs to stop hurting their families. She also warned them that they have a price to pay when they abuse drugs and alcohol.
