Korean Actress Song Hye Kyo is still popular in China although tense political relations hurt the popularity of Korean celebrities in the country. The beloved Hallyu star almost has no malicious or negative comment in articles written about her, according to the report of media outlet Asia Today's on Wednesday.
In fact, Song Hye Kyo was ranked No. 4 Hallyu star wherein fans all over the world wants to see her most, according to the Korean Foundation for International Culture Exchange, or KOFICE. Meanwhile, singer-rapper Psy, actor Lee Min-ho, and Song Hye Kyo's husband, Song Joong-ki, were ranked first, second, and third respectively.
According to the South China Morning Post, although China banned Korean celebrities from appearing on television amid the decision of Korea to deploy the US THAAD missile interceptor, the private wedding of Song Hye Ko and Song Joong Ki was still broadcasted live on social media platforms in China - with 200 million views on Weibo and Baidu.
Weibo, in particular, had a live-streamed video which leads to the speculation in the South Korean media that Chinese reporters had shot the event from the hotel's city-view rooms.
One of the reasons why Song Hye Kyo's star remains bright in China is because she's been participating in some events in the country.
Back in December 2017, Song Hye Kyo attended a state banquet in China, according to Soompi. She went to Beijing and participated the event for AmorePacific, where she stayed there for two nights and three days. She reportedly attended a state dinner too, hosted by Chinese president Xi Jinping. South Korean president Moon Jae In also attended the said event.
Additionally, the actress went to Hong Kong last June to help Omega celebrate Hong Kong store opening, and also introduced Omega's latest women's range, the Trésor collection, to the Hong Kong market.
Song Hye Kyo also appeared in some Chinese movies, such as The Grandmaster in 2013 - a Hong Kong-Chinese martial arts drama film based on the life story of the Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man. The Korean actress played the role of Cheung Wing-sing (Zhang Yongcheng).
Song Hye Kyo also has a close relationship with top Chinese celebrities, which likely serves an additional factor why she became popular in the country. For instance, Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi went to Korea back in October 2017 to attend the wedding of the Korean actress.
As for Song Hye Kyo's latest project, she will be starring in the upcoming TV series Boyfriend, with Park Bo-gum will be her partner.
