It has been more than five years since actor Tom Cruise was last seen publicly with daughter Suri. Now, the 56-year-old actor and producer remain hopeful that his relationship with his daughter will be mended soon.
It came to light when a source told Grazia UK (via In Touch Weekly) that Tom Cruise has been in contact with Suri - his daughter from the previous marriage to actress Katie Holmes - again. He also made it clear that he wants to be part of her life moving forward.
"[Tom Cruise] he's been sending her gifts and writing her letters in a bid to try and reconnect with his daughter all of which have been working," the source revealed. "Tom is believed to have reached out to Katie to meet face-to-face to discuss relations with Suri. He is a deeply private person who will do all of this behind closed doors, but Tom has made his intentions clear," the source added.
This after news broke that Tom Cruise is allowed to visit his 12-year-old daughter up to 10 days in one month, but chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist. The actor was allegedly asked by the church leaders to stay away from his daughter because she what's known as a "suppressive person" or an "SP."
Tom Cruise has been a member of Church of Scientology since 1990. Back in 2003, the actor told People Magazine that the teachings of Scientology founder, author L. Ron Hubbard, helped him overcome his childhood dyslexia. It was also the key to his success as an actor and to his ability to take on other challenges in life, such as learning to fly planes and drive race cars.
"I don't want people to go through what I went through," the "Mission: Impossible" actor explained. "I want kids to have the ability to read, to write, to understand what people are saying to them, to be able to solve life's problems."
In addition to being an active member of Church of Scientology, Tom Cruise is also busy with several film projects. He is currently filming "Top Gun: Maverick," an upcoming military action drama film helmed by Joseph Kosinski with a screenplay written by Justin Marks, Peter Craig, Zack Stentz and Ashley Edward Miller.
In "Top Gun: Maverick," Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a flight instructor. He will be joined by Val Kilmer and Miles Teller as Commander Tom "Iceman" Kazansky and Bradley Bradshaw, respectively. It will hit theaters on June 26, 2020.
