After the reports that Justin Bieber cried of guilt because of Selena Gomez's hospitalization, there are rumors that the 26-year-old star got hospitalized due to a "low white blood cell count." The "13 Reasons Why" producer's hospital confinement reportedly had something to do with her lupus.
"A low white blood count can be a little tricky to sort out in lupus," associate clinical professor at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine Dr. Maureen McMahon told Hollywood Life. Selena Gomez might suffer the low white blood count as a lupus flare up. It could also be because of a medication's side effect or her recent kidney transplant.
Selena Gomez has been open about her battle with lupus for the past few years. Justin Bieber's former lover also underwent a kidney transplant, donated by her friend Francia Raisa, in 2017
The doctors have to look for other symptoms or take a series of blood tests to find out if the low white blood count is because of a lupus flare up to properly address the issue. If it is indeed what happened to Selena Gomez, the treatment depends on what caused it.
If Selena Gomez's white blood count is mildly low, she may have to change her therapy. If it is quite low and has something to do with her lupus, her immune-suppressing medications need to get increased. If it is due to medication, her dosage needs to be lower or change her therapy completely.
Selena Gomez got hospitalized earlier this month due to the low white blood cell count. She also suffered an emotional breakdown that made her decide to check into rehab on the east coast. She is currently getting treatments for mental health with a dialectical behavior therapy, which reportedly made Justin Bieber cried.
Mirror reported that Justin Bieber was seen crying in front of Hailey Baldwin after Selena Gomez checked into a wellness facility. However, the 24-year-old pop singer tried his best to compose himself and "separate" a part of him from his former partner's situation to make his soon-to-be-wife feel more secured.
An insider said there would always be a soft spot for Selena Gomez in Justin Bieber's heart. He reportedly continuously love and care for her, but Hailey Baldwin is his top priority. He now moves forward with the 21-year-old model as he tries to separate his feelings and guilt for the "Wolves" hitmaker.
To recall, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin got engaged in July. It was a couple of months after he and Selena Gomez once again called it quits in March. They are now reportedly preparing for their wedding ceremony.
