Fans of Steve Carell are in for a treat. The 56-year-old veteran actor and comedian is finally making his return to the television screen nearly seven years since departing NBC's "The Office."

This time, Steve Carell will be joined by actress Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in the still-untitled TV series which will be directed by Mimi Leder ('China Beach'). He will play a morning show anchor, Mitch Kessler, who is struggling to maintain relevance in the changing media landscape, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The still-untitled series, which is also executive produced by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, will offer an inside look at the lives of the people behind one of TV's top morning shows. The production on the show is set to begin in late October in Los Angeles. No premiere date has been set yet.

The still-untitled series marks Steve Carell's first TV project since departing NBC's "The Office" in 2011. In between that and this year's comeback, he took his talents to the big screen and have starred in the comedy-drama film "Last Flag Flying," and the recently released biographical drama film, "Beautiful Boy."

Steve Carell will also star next as Donald Rumsfeld in Adam McKay's upcoming biographical comedy-drama film, "Vice." He will be joined by actors Christian Bale as Dick Cheney, Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney, Alison Pill as Mary Cheney, Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush and Lily Rabe as Liz Cheney.

In addition to that, Steve Carell will headline the upcoming drama film, "Welcome to Marwen," directed by Robert Zemeckis. The story heavily revolve around a victim of a violent assault, Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell), who constructs a miniature World War II village in his yard to help in his recovery.

"I got beaten within an inch of my life for no reason," Mark Hogancamp said.  "They kicked every memory I ever had out of my head... Everything from before the attack is gone, so my dolls have to explain the story," he added.

Also starring in "Welcome to Marwen" are Diane Kruger as Deja Thoris, Leslie Mann as Nicol, Janelle Monae as GI Julie, Merritt Wever as Roberta, Gwendoline Christie as Anna, Eiza Gonzales as Caralala, Neil Jackson as Kurt and Leslie Zemeckis as Suzette. It is set to open in theaters across United States on Dec. 21.
