Most Millennials believe on the abbreviation YOLO, which means You Only Live Once. By enjoying the life they tend to be much braver in making significant choices, friendlier to more people, bolder in embracing risks and of course more energetic in discovering the wonders of the world. But have you ever wondered how much are they willing to give up other things just to explore destinations and make the most out of life?
The leading global social travel company Contiki, which surveyed a total of 1,500 Millennials as its participants, answered that question. Its participants are between the ages of 18 to 35 years. "We developed this survey to dispel stereotypical myths around what 18-35-year-olds want," Adam Cooper, president of Contiki, told INSIDER.
The survey showed three results. These results include the percentage of how often they travel, the percentage of how much they are willing to give up Netflix, coffee, alcohol, carbs, and sex just to be able to enjoy traveling, and the percentage of those who are willing to set aside their phones during travels.
The survey showed astonishing results, according to Forbes. The first result showed that 83 percent of the participants travel once to five times annually, 48 percent of them travels only once or twice annually and 35 percent thrice to five times annually. The second result showed that 80 percent of them are willing to give up Netflix, 77 percent are willing to give up coffee, 73 percent are willing to give up alcohol, 60 percent are willing to give up delicious meals and 57 percent of them are willing to give up their sex life just to be able to explore the world. The third result showed how 41 percent of the participants are very much willing to give up their phones just to travel.
The results proved that no matter how exciting Netflix movies are, how strong your coffee is, how enjoying it is to party with friends, how delicious your foods are and no matter how good your sex life is, nothing can still beat the perfect view of nature in giving our hearts that inner peace. Most people would still prefer to leave and get away from stress even just for a day no matter what and how much they have to sacrifice for it.
So why are these Millennials so willing to sacrifice these comfortable things to travel? According to Melissa da Silva, former brand president of Contiki, the reason behind the obsession of Millennials to traveling is because of its promise of escape from all the stress they encounter every day. These young professionals are those that work "80 hours a week, really needs to let off some steam, they don't want to think about or plan anything, they just want to go relax and have fun."
