Fans of Demi Lovato will need to wait a little longer for her return. The 26-year-old is planning to stay in rehab through the end of the year after an apparent drug overdose.
It came to light when a source gave Entertainment Tonight an update about Demi Lovato's medical condition. The source said the singer-songwriter has been sober for more than three months and is doing well in her rehab treatment.
Demi Lovato is said to be fully committed to recovery and is planning to stay in treatment for the remainder of the year. She is also working with a specialist who focuses on mental health and sobriety.
"Demi [Lovato] is taking her sobriety extremely serious, and knows she has a long road ahead of her," the source added. "At the end of the day, Demi is doing this for herself. She has to stay sober for her, but every time she has family or friends visit her, it reminds her of all the other important people in her life that she needs to fight for as well."
It was in July when Demi Lovato was found unconscious at her home in Los Angeles due to an alleged opioid overdose. She was immediately hospitalized at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and then taken to a rehabilitation facility.
There is no word on what led up to this, but the "Give Your Heart a Break" hitmaker has long been open about her struggles with substance abuse, alcohol addiction, eating disorder and mental health issues.
As a matter of fact, MTV aired a documentary in March 2012, titled "Demi Lovato: Stay Strong," which follows the "Camp Rock" star's recovery after leaving rehab and her come back to the music industry after abruptly canceling her tour with the Jonas Brothers - Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas - on their "Live in Concert Tour."
At the time, Demi Lovato told "Today's" anchor Ann Curry (via The Huffington Post) that she decided to share her story to the world because there are a lot of individuals, especially teenagers, who are also dealing with the same issues that she has been through.
Demi Lovato's third studio album, "Unbroken," was also influenced by her struggles. She also released a song titled "Sober" last June, in which she revealed she had relapsed after six years of sobriety. The said song reached the top 40 in Portugal and Ireland.
