"Stranger Things" fans, rejoice! The science fiction-horror web television series' third season will not air until mid-2019, but several reports have already listed the exciting things viewers should look forward to.
1. 'Stranger Things' Season 3 Will Be Scarier Than Ever
Fans should brace themselves as "Stranger Things" will reportedly be scarier than ever once it returns. This after series co-creator Ross Duffer revealed in the recently released companion book that the upcoming season would be inspired by horror legends George Romero ("Night of the Living Dead"), John Carpenter ("Halloween") and David Cronenberg ("The Fly").
"There are horror movies and horror masters that we haven't really paid tribute to as much in previous seasons that we are definitely going to get into this season," co-creator Ross Duffer said in the companion book, "Stranger Things: Worlds Turned Upside Down," which was released last Oct. 29, as quoted by Inverse.
2. The Mind Flayer's Return
To make things more exciting, "Stranger Things" season 3 will be set in the summer of 1985, one year after the mind-boggling events of the previous season. Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) is now a high school graduate, while Jane "El" Hopper / Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Michael "Mike" Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) are officially an item.
However, things will not be easy for Steve Harrington, Jane "El" Hopper / Eleven, Michael "Mike" Wheeler and the rest of the group as "Stranger Things" season 3 will also see the return of the Mind Flayer, also known as the Shadow Monster. The said malevolent entity inhabiting the Upside Down was introduced in the previous season.
3. New Characters
It was recently confirmed that the popular science fiction-horror web television series is adding fresh faces into the mix for its upcoming third season. The newcomers are actors Jake Busey, Cary Elwes, Francesca Reale, and Maya Ray Thurman Hawke.
Jake Busey and Cary Elwes have been tapped to play Bruce and Mayor Kline, respectively, while Francesca Reale will play a lifeguard at the community pool, Heather, who reportedly becomes the focal point of a dark mystery. Maya Ray Thurman Hawke, on the other hand, will take on the role of Robin, a mysterious girl who uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins.
What's more, Erica Sinclair (Priah Ferguson) will reportedly play a much bigger role in "Stranger Things" season 3. She will reportedly embark on a wild mission to save Hawkins from a dangerous and unexpected new threat.
"Stranger Things" season 3 will have a total of eight episodes and is set to premiere sometime in mid-2019 on Netflix.
