South Korean boy band BTS' joint performance with American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth at the 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards (MGA) made noise online, but not for the reason everyone thinks.
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, BTS - RM, J-Hope, Jimin, V, Jin, Suga and Jungkook - and Charlie Puth shared the stage at the 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards (MGA) held at the Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon, South Korea. The latter kicked off the performance with the song "See You Again."
BTS' youngest member Jungkook and Charlie Puth, then, sang a duet of "We Don't Talk Anymore." Soon afterward, the two were joined by the six remaining members for an epic performance of the boy band's recent single "Fake Love."
However, many were not happy about BTS and Charlie Puth's joint performance. Many fans noticed that the popular K-pop boy band, especially V and Jimin (whose real name is Kim Tae Hyung and Park Ji Min, respectively), had shaky vocals and sounded awful in general.
"[BTS] they need to rest," one netizen said, as quoted by All Kpop. "Their voice is going to be in terrible conditions if they continue singing nonstop like this... I feel sorry for them. I think they could've done better with more rest."
Not long after it made noise online, BTS' producer DOCSKIM has finally addressed the matter. The producer said that the wrong sound mix was played to the K-pop boy band during the "Fake Love" collaboration performance.
As a result, BTS and Charlie Puth were forced to improvise and adapt as best as they could to the change. This would also explain why all the seven members, including the "One Call Away" hitmaker, seemingly looked stressed the entire performance.
In other related news, BTS will be making their cinematic debut with the release of "Burn the Stage: The Movie" on Nov. 15. Helmed by Park Jun Soo and produced by Big Hit Entertainment / Camp Entertainment, the film will feature footage from their live dates, behind-the-scenes footage and brand-new one-on-one interview with the members.
According to Soompi, tickets for "Burn the Stage: The Movie" is now on sale through CGV, and as of press time, 57,221 individuals have already placed their reservation for the upcoming film, surpassing the number of people who reserved tickets for Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming fantasy film titled "Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald."
